History: Sean,
Jules and I (Dawn) have been playing ball in Homer since
we were kids, and have played in the adult league about
ten years. As adults, we've played together only a few times.
In 2002, Sean decided to start and coach a team, and thought
Fugitives would be a great name. He did some heavy recruiting,
and the team was born. Most of the people on the team we
grew up with and have known 20 years or more. It's more
like a family and we all get along great. Also, most of
the team is red headed. Homer seems to have a high proportion
of reds! Sadly, dad passed away half way through our first
season. The team was of great support for us, even putting
dads initials on their jerseys in memorial (you may notice
Sean's shirt-on one arm it has the initials of dad, Vera
and Red, and other close friends we lost that year. On the
other arm, injured players that couldn't play the season
out. 2002 was a rough year for us up here). Our hats have
dads initials and years of life embordered on the back too.
He was a strong supporter of ball programs up here. Everyone
on the team felt the loss with us. That year was our first
year, and we kicked butt! But were unable to place in state.
Our second year, we finished with the most wins for season,
and placed third in our city tourney, defeated only by two
D league teams (we are E league, one step down, but moving
up soon!). |
