Vera
was born in Fulton, California, to Charles and Louella Moor.
She had one sister and two brothers. Her mother, father, and
sister were taken by the flu epidemic in California in 1917.
Vera was raised by her two brothers, Alan and Larry. She moved
to Los Angeles and graduated from Inglewood High School, in
California in 1931. She worked for the Broadway Department
Store in Los Angeles. She met Red, a dashing young man, working
in an ice cream factory. She told him when he got a real job
with security and held it for six months she would marry him.
He got a job as an electrical repairman with the Department
of Water and Power in the City of Los Angeles. After six months
they were married in Minden, Nevada on September 5, 1936.
They remained happily one for 66 years.
Vera had worked as Game Management Director
for the University of Southern California. She organized many
football games and other sporting events in the Los Angeles
Memorial Coliseum and directed many Rose Bowl Games in Pasadena.
She was a wizard. Vera and Red both retired in 1973. They
lived in Newcastle, California near their extended family
the Labries. They had an adventurous nature. Early on,
they pack-trained on horseback many times into the High Sierras
of California, fishing and loving nature. Later, they bought
a travel trailer and set out to see the USA. They drove the
Al-Can Highway, twice, to Alaska and crossed the USA to Newfoundland,
Maine; Florida; and across the south. Their hobby was meeting
people and they met many. They always traveled with friends
Matey, Gladys and later Blanche, the Giblin family.
They loved fishing and they caught a bunch. They traveled
in Scotland, Reds birthplace. They loved their family
and would tote their grandkids on many trips. They settled
in Salem, Oregon 20 years ago and that became their home.
